The GP space in Australia is managed differently to the UK. The practices are all private; there are some public GP services, mainly run through rural hospitals. In rural areas GP’s work in hospitals as GP Anesthetists, GP Obstetricians, and GP Emergency Medicine doctors. In Queensland there are jobs such MORPP (Medical Officer with Right of Private Practice) and MSRPP – Medical Superintendent with Right of Private practice).
Career Medical Recruitment works with practices in rural Australia, working to place GP's in to high need areas. These areas can be classed as AON GP jobs (Area Of Need) and have DWS (District of Workforce Shortage). In the public sector, these GP’s will be expected to work hospital environment as well as in a practice, and are called MORPP’s - all sites will have FRACGP / FACRRM supervisors.
Career Medical Recruitment works with the full range of privately owned GP practices from the smaller family run GP practices through to the corporate GP groups.
Career Medical Recruitment can offer General Practitioner jobs in a range of permanent and locum contracts - ranging from 1 week through to 2 years. Locums can expect to earn from $1000 - $1500 per day, where FRACGP doctors will attract higher Medicare rebates, so their earning capacity will be higher than non vocationally registered GP’s.
A permanent GP can expect offers in the region of 50% - 70% of billings. Depending on the practice, that equates to roughly $150,000 - $300,000.
